How to Order a Gun or Lower Receiver from Aerospace Arms

Posted by Andrew Maas on Aug 16th 2024

If you're new to purchasing firearms or lower receivers online, the process might seem a bit overwhelming. At Aerospace Arms, we're here to make it as simple and straightforward as possible. Below, we've outlined a step-by-step guide to help you successfully order your firearm or lower receiver and get it shipped to your local Federal Firearms License (FFL) holder.

Step 1: Know Your Local Laws

Before you make a purchase, it’s crucial to be aware of your state and local laws regarding firearm ownership. Laws vary significantly between states and even municipalities, so it's your responsibility to ensure that the firearm or lower receiver you're purchasing is legal in your area.

If your FFL holder determines that the item is not compliant with local laws, they will be unable to transfer it to you. This means they may have to return the item to us. Please be aware that most FFL holders will charge a fee for returning the item, and this cost will typically be your responsibility.

Step 2: Choose Your Firearm or Lower Receiver

Browse through our selection of high-quality rifles and lower receivers. Once you’ve made your choice, proceed to the checkout page.

Step 3: Provide Your FFL Information

Federal law requires that firearms and certain firearm components (like lower receivers) be shipped directly to an FFL holder. When placing your order on our website, you will be prompted to enter the details of the FFL holder who will receive the item on your behalf. Please provide this information when adding the item to your cart:

  • FFL Name: The business name of your chosen FFL holder.
  • FFL Address: The full address where your firearm or lower receiver will be shipped.
  • Phone Number: A contact number for your FFL holder.
  • Email Address: The email address where we can reach them.

Step 4: Contact Your FFL Holder

After providing the FFL information, it's important to notify your FFL holder that you have made a purchase and that they should expect a shipment from Aerospace Arms. Let them know that they will need to forward a copy of their FFL license (Form 8) to us at support@aerospacearms.com. This step is crucial, as we cannot ship your order until we have received a copy of the FFL license.

Step 5: Submit Your Order

With all the FFL information provided and your FFL holder informed, you can now submit your order. We will process it and contact the FFL holder to verify their license. If they have already sent us a copy of their FFL license, this will speed up the process considerably.

Step 6: Wait for Your FFL Holder to Handle the Transfer

Once your order arrives at your FFL holder's location, they will contact you to arrange for completion of the paperwork and pickup. Please note that your FFL holder will typically charge a transfer fee to cover the paperwork and background check required by law. Fees vary, so it's a good idea to inquire about the cost when selecting your FFL holder.

Step 7: Complete the Transfer and Take Possession

When you visit your FFL holder to pick up your firearm or lower receiver, you'll need to complete the necessary paperwork, including a background check. Once everything is in order, you can take possession of your item.

Important Reminders:

  • Know Your Local Laws: Before purchasing, ensure that the item is legal in your area. If your FFL cannot transfer the item due to local laws, you may incur additional fees to return it to us.
  • Double-Check Your FFL Information: Ensure that all the details you enter are accurate to avoid delays.
  • Notify Your FFL Holder: Prompt communication with your FFL holder helps to prevent any holdups in the shipping process.
  • Be Prepared for a Transfer Fee: This fee is standard and covers the service your FFL holder provides.
